Ikigai – The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life
Hi,
Life is moving peacefully and at a slow pace.
I’ve spent a lot of time trying to find the meaning of happiness, and while doing this little research on the web (yes, I was that free that even Googling felt meaningful), I came across the word IKIGAI. Out of curiosity, I started reading more and more about it.
I even ordered a few books on Ikigai. Today, I finished my first one: Ikigai – The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life, and I’d love to share my thoughts with you.
This book was the perfect start to my inner journey. What stood out to me—apart from the ten rules of Ikigai explained in detail—was the dedication of the authors, who traveled and interviewed as many supercentenarians as possible to understand the secret of their long, happy lives.
The book beautifully emphasizes the importance of being active (without always rushing), finding peace, staying close to nature, and cherishing friends and community.
The Ten Rules of Ikigai

- Take it slow
- Don’t fill your stomach
- Surround yourself with good friends
- Get in shape for your next birthday
- Smile—it’s contagious
- Reconnect with nature
- Give thanks
- Live in the moment
- Follow your Ikigai
